What Happens After Age 14? The HCPSS Transition Planning Process
The MRHS/GHS Transition Night, hosted by the Special Education Departments, for families at GHS, MRHS, and eighth grade families at GMS, FQMS, and MVMS.  Join us for an opportunity to discuss the transition planning process.  Speakers include HCPSS DSE Transition Team, High School Resource Teachers, and school-based staff.  Hope to see you!
 
 
 
Ice Hockey team advances to the Serio Cup!  Come out TONIGHT (2/7) and support your Mustang Spirit and support the team as they compete for the Serio Cup for the 3rd straight year.  Tonight’s game vs Glenelg will faceoff at 8PM at the Columbia Ice Rink; admission fee applies.  
Congratulations to Hanna Al-Kawsi for taking First Place at the Poetry Out Loud, Region 2 competition.  She will now compete in the Maryland State Finals on March 2.  Good Luck!!
POMS places in competition!  Congratulations on receiving a first for Captain and a third for Team in last weekend’s competition.  Mustang PRIDE!!
Students had fun at the 6th Annual Physics Olympics held at Columbia Mall on January 25th.  MRHS students earned a 1stPlace in the Slow Descent Event.  The goal for this activity was to build a device, containing a metal washer, that would take the longest time to reach the ground from the designated starting height, which was on the 2nd level of the mall.  Their device was 4.09 seconds with the average being approximately between 2 and 3 seconds.  The students involved in this winning team wereMeghana Bhanuprasad, Lumya Rangoonwala, Daniel Park, Kwabena Aduse-Poku, and Hongze Khor.
 
SPRING SPORTS ONLINE REGISTRATION IS OPEN
Tryouts being March 1st.  Spring sports include: Lacrosse, Baseball, Softball, Tennis, Track & Field, and Allied Softball.
 
 
 
 

CLUB NEWS

The Red Cross Club will be collecting shampoo and conditioner bottles throughout the month of February for local veterans in need.  Please bring your donations to Mrs. Bonner's room 311 beginning February 4-22.  Collection boxes are also located throughout the building. 

The MRHS Vision Club is having a Chipotle Fundraiser Night on SUNDAY, 2/10 from 4-8 p.m.  It is a great opportunity to help the community and get delicious food.  All the proceeds raised will go towards sponsoring cataract surgeries for kids in need in developing countries.  Make sure to tell the cashier you want to support MRHS Vision Club.  Please share with your families and friends.

Show your love and appreciation for everyone you care about!  Buy a rose during all lunch shifts from the Relay for Life Club.  All roses will be delivered on Valentine's Day.  Roses are $2 each and are on sale now through Feb. 13.  All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

Environmental Club is participating in a TREX recycling project that turns plastic into decking.  Students and staff can participate by bringing in plastic items such as, but not limited to, zip-lock bags, bread and grocery bags, bubble wrap, and dry leaning bags, and package wrapping.  Bins are located in the Commons, the cafeteria, near the front office, and in front of Mrs. Kol's room 246. 

S.A.D.D. Club is holding a meme poster contest! Submit a school appropriate meme poster that promotes the SADD initiative by March 1st to Officer Willingham for a chance to have your meme hung around school.  You might win a $10 for the Hitching Post!!

Applications are now available for the next Student Member of the Board of Education

Calling all Juniors!  Are you interested in building leadership skills and learning about your government?  Come learn about Boys/Girls State, a free one-week leadership and citizen development program sponsored by the American Legion/American Legion Auxiliary.  An information session will be held in Mr. Malt’s room (200) after school on February 8.

Leadership U Class of 2019  Are you a student looking for leadership opportunities?   Do you want to make a difference in our Howard County community?  Consider joining the Leadership U Class of 2019!  Come to learn more and speak to some of our grads at one of our information sessions:   February 11 at Central Library or March 7 at Miller Library.  All sessions are from 7-8pm.  Additional information is available at http://www.leadershiphc.org/leadership-u-2/ or email Meg Ignacio   mignacio@leadershiphc.org.   Applications are due March 14, 2019.

Free Educational Speaker Event: Women in Aerospace Science & Engineering  February 26, 7PM at the HoCo Elkridge Library    Women speakers from UM Dept. of Aerospace Engineering in College Park will present their studies and careers in aerospace-related science and engineering.
