Jan 30-31 -- ARL Shadow Days for interested 10th grade students

Jan 31 -- PSAT Score Review Presentation at Homewood – 6:30 pm

Feb 1 -- ARL Shadow Day for interested 9th grade students

Feb 9 -- SAT Registration Deadline for 3/10 Test

Feb 10 -- ACT Test Day

Feb 28 -- SAT Late Registration Deadline (late fee) for 3/10 Test

 

Electrician Apprenticeship:    The Howard County Public School System has announced a new program for students interested in a career as an electrician. Student Apprenticeship Pathways is the only opportunity of its kind in the state and will initially pilot electrician youth apprenticeship for approximately 15 students.  Students and families who wish to learn more about Student Apprenticeship Pathways should attend an information session on January 17, from 1–2 p.m. or 6–7 p.m., at Independent Electrical Contractors, 8751 Freestate Drive, Suite 250, in Laurel. Course Request Timeline and On-Line Recommendations SY 18-19

New process this year! Course registration forms for the school year of 2018-2019 will be submitted on line. Students received a hard copy of their course registration form on January 9, 2018. Course registrations are required to be submitted on line by the end of the school day on January 19, 2018. Students will see the courses which were recommended by content teachers. The form will contain directions which will explain how to make course request for electives and alternates. The student and parent/guardian should use the Catalog of Approved School Courses to review course selections for the upcoming school year. The online course request and catalog can be found at HCPSS Connect. Note course descriptions and pre-requisites. If you do not have access to a computer, need assistance, or want to make changes after January 19, 2018, please contact student services. If you have concerns about or disagree with any of the course recommendations, you may complete the reverse side of the course registration form and submit to student services.

9TH GRADE MIDTERM MADNESS

The 9th Grade Team is preparing a few upcoming events to assist 9th Graders with preparing for their midterms. On Thursday, January 7th, parents of 9th graders are invited to attend an informational meeting in the media center during which we will discuss the impact of midterm exams on grades as well as study tips. As we have done in the past, we have planned Midterm Madness for the week prior to exams. All teachers of 9th graders in science, math, English, and social studies classes are asked to host after-school review sessions for their students according to the following schedule:

  • Tuesday 1/16: Social Studies
  • Wednesday 1/17: Science
  • Thursday 1/18: Math
  • Friday 1/19: English

Review sessions will begin at 2:15 pm.

 

PSAT Score Review – Get help interpreting PSAT score results, learn more about your student’s PSAT score, and how your student can best prepare for the SAT. HCPSS will host a PSAT parent night on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at 6:30 p.m., at Homewood Center, 10914 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21042.

Student Member of the Howard County Board of Education

Attention sophomores and juniors: Are you interested in helping to shape county education policies? Applications are now being accepted for the Student Member of the Howard County Board of Education. The student elected by the students of Howard County will serve a one-year term on the Howard County Board of Education, July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. Applications are available in Student Services. Completed application packets must be received by Ms. Cindy Drummond, HCASC Advisor, HCPSS, 10910 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21042 or by email, cindy_drummond@hcpss.org. no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, February 9, 2018.

 

ARL NEWS

Attention 9th grade students: The ARL is offering an Aerospace Engineering Shadow Day and an Early College Program in Cybersecurity Shadow Day on Thursday February 1st. Please go to Student Services for a permission slip to participate. Permission slips are due back to Mrs. Nelson in Student Services by January 18th.

Attention 10th grade students: See what ARL has to offer! ARL Shadow Days will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 30th and January 31st. Permission slips can be picked up in Student Services and are due back to Mrs. Nelson by January 18th.
