Next Steps: "Empowering Students with the Tools to be College and Career Ready”

This evening, Student Services will be hosting our second annual evening program called, “Next Steps: Empowering Students with the Tools to be College and Career Ready” which is scheduled for tonight, Wednesday, June 3rd from 6:45pm – 8:30pm!  This is for all 9th, 10th and 11th grade parents and students!! This evening will explore the various tools necessary for students to become college and career ready. There will be three, 30-minute breakout sessions for parents and students to attend and hear information from presenters and college representatives on such topics as:

  • The Redesigned SAT (for current 9th & 10th grade parents and students)
  • College and Career Exploration: Using the Naviance Program
  • Two-Year College Experience
  • Finding Balance in Your Life
  • Writing Effective College Essays- UMBC Admissions Counselor
  • Navigating a Successful Admissions Process-Director of Freshman Admissions, Stevenson Univ.
  • Breaking down the differences – SAT/ACT & The benefit of the PSAT
  • Strengthening your transcript (Honors, GT, and AP level courses)
  • Real Talk: Students’ and Parents’ perspectives on the college admission process
  • Junior Parent Information Session (recommendations, applications, transcripts and time lines)

We encourage all to attend and get a “jump start” to understanding the requirements for life beyond high school.  The future is right around the corner!!
