October 30, 2018

  • Lifetouch will here next week for Senior Portraits. Any senior student who missed the August dates has been rescheduled for Nov. 5, 7 or 8. If you need to verify your appointment date and time, please stop in the front office and speak to Mrs. Lockhoff. All students are encouraged to have their official yearbook pose done through Lifetouch; plus, you'll also receive a student ID. Reminder that the deadline to submit your yearbook pose is December 21 ... no extension!!

  • Congratulations to the Varsity Field Hockey team on their 4-0 victory over Wilde Lake last Thursday. Come support the girls as they take on Glenelg today at 5pm at GHS in the 2A East Section Final!
  • Come out October 31 from 5-7 pm in your best costume.  Why?  It's Besyt Buddies MATCH PARTY!!! Come join un in the cafetria for refreshment, games, and fun!
  • Are you a creative person who loves to write?  Do you wish we still had a Creative Writing class here at school?  Then join Creative Writing Club!  We meet Tuesday, after school in Mr. Frank's room 348 from 2:15-3:15.  Hope to see you there!

  • Do you have a passion for performane and poetry? Do you want to express yourself? Are you looking for a supportive community of authors and speakers? Then join Slam Poetry Club! We meet every Wednesday after school in Mrs. Robert's room, room 304. Looking forward to seeing you there!
  • Are you a creative person who loves to write? Do you wish we still had a Creative Writing class here at school? Then join Creative Writing Club! We meet Tuesdays, after school, in Mr. Frank's room (room 348) from 2:15-3:15. Hope to see you there!
  • Cinema Club will be meeting on Friday in Mr. Sullivan's room 334.  The movie for this meeting will be "The Breakfast Club".

  • Attention 10th grade students:  See what ARL has to offer!  ARL Shadow Days will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 27 & 28.  Permission slips are available in Student Services and are due back tyo Mrs. Nelson by November 12.
  • Attention 9th grade students:  The ARL is offering a Shadow Day for Aerospace Engineering and the Early College Program in Cybersecurity on Thursday, November 29.  Please go to Student Services for a permission slip to participate.  Permission slips are due back to Mrs. Nelson by November 12th.
  • Are you interested in helping make the dreams of critical ill patients come true?  Be part of the MRHS Make-A-Wish Chapter.  Interest meeting on Wed., 10/24 in room 310 during Mustang Time.
  • The Gender & Sexalities Alliance will be meeting after school today in room 309.

  • There will be a meeting for anyone interested in playing Boys Lacrosse on Wednesday, October 24 in room 330 during Mustang Time.  See Coach Minard in room 330 if you are unable to make the meeting.
  • There will be an interest meeting for Oyster Club on Wed., 10/24 during Mustang Time in Mrs. Burke's room 352.
  • Students, please be aware that the lost & found clothing and large items is now located in the Commons outside the SGA room.  The Front Office has eye glasses keys, calculators & jewelry.
  • Students who are not currently driving, but will be driving later this school year should plan to attend the last Safe Driving Presentation on Tuesday, 10/23 at 6:30 pm at Hammond HS.  There is no guarantee that a Safe Driving Presentation will be offered in Spring 2019.
  • Do you enjoy solving Rubik's Cubes or puzzles?  If so, you should join the Rubik's Cube Club.  Our first meeting will be Tuesday after school from 2:15-3:15 in room 228.  Hope to see you there!
  • PTSA Reflection's theme is "Heroes Around Me" and calls for your own unique interpretation through the arts.  Pick up submission guidelines and an entry form today from the front office.  Deadline for entries is Friday, November 30. 
  • Delta Schlars will be holding an interest meeting on October 25 in room 205 during Mustang Time.  Come here about Delta Scholars and pick up an application.

  • There will be an interest meeting for Oyster Club on Wed. 10/24 during Break in Mrs Burke's room 352.
  • The Gender and Sexualities Alliance will be meeting on Tuesday, 10/23 after school in room 309.  Our goal is to provide a safe space for those in the LGBTQ community.  All are welcome.
  • Are you an athlete?  Are you looking for a community of other athletes rooted in their faith?  If that's you, come check out Fellowship of Christian Athletes!  FCA's first meeting will be October 24 at 6:45 am in Mrs. Burke's room 352.  Breakfast will be provided!

  • Come support the Varsity Field Hockey team at Glenelg at 4pm today in the fight for the County Championship!
  • Students, are you looking for an alternative to the Pep Rally on Thursday, 10/18?  If so, there are several options available to you.  1) The Media Center is open for students.  2) Mr. Beall will have the auditorium available.  3) Mr. Stuller's room 342 will host chess games.  4) Ms. Miers-Bond has opened her art room.  5) Mr. Dubbs (328), Mrs Valdesuso (300,) and Ms. Goldszmidt ((305) will all have study rooms.   If you would like t attend one of these rooms, show up and sign in during the Pep Rally on Thursday.
  • There will be a Softball interest meeting on October 24 during Mustang Time in Room 258.
  • Attention all wrestlers.  There will be a meeting after school today in Mr. Muscato's room 125.  If you are interested in wrestling, we will discuss our season schedule, get contact info, and pass out uniform order forms.  Don't miss this meeting!

  • The net Operation Smie Club meeting is tomorrow after school in Mrs. Cooper's room 346.  Meeting will be short, so please come join us!
  • Inspired by a YouTube video series called "Middle Ground", MRHS Middle Ground seeks to create a safe space fr all students with different backgrounds and ideologies to come together and find a "middle ground" on controversial topics or current issues.  Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 10/17, after school in room 202 for students to express their individual thoughts or opinions without the fear of judgment at each meeting.  Meetings are held every third Wednesday and snacks will be provided.
  • Attention all Model UN members:  There will be a meeting on Monday, 10/22 from 2:15-2:45 after school to discuss pricing for JHUMUNC. If yu are attending JHUMUNC, you mut attend this meeting or send an email notifiying your absence to Mrs. Valdesuso.
  • PTSA says, "Please bring any gentyly used winter coats, jackets, hats, and gloves to donate to those who are in need.  The large red collection box is outside of Student Services in the front hallway."
  • Do yu like running? Would you like to support the American Cancer Society?  Come join us after school on October 22 for the 2018 relay for Life 5K.  Waivers and permission slips can be picked up outside Ms. Robert's room 222.  All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
  • Come and join UNICEF after school in Mrs. Scott's room 212 to earn service hours, get snacks, and have fun!  The first meeting is Wed., 10/17 and we will meet every other Wednesday.

  • Are you interested in making and trying foods all around the world? Come join Diversity Club to learn and share different cultures, traditions, and experiences! The next meeting will be on 10/16. Remember to bring $3 to make bubble tea to that meeting in Ms. Hans room.
  • Join Guitar Club!  The first meeting is Wednesday, October 17 in room 356.
  • Reminder that the next Key Club general meeting is October 23rd.  This is the last day to turn in sign-up forms and donate for Operation Gratitude, so make sure yu don't miss it!  there is a list of things you can donate on mrkeyclub.weebly.com under upcoming events, so check that out!  An event for October 20th was recently posted. We hope to see you there.
  • Do you like taking photos?  Do you want to improve your skills in photography?  Photo Club is having its first meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 17 in room 120 right after school!

  • Do you like buffalo chicken dip? How does a nacho bar sound? Come to the Homecoming Pre-game dinner on October 19th from 4:30 - 6:30. For $10, you'll get assorted food, desserts, and drinks prepared by the MRHS Culinary students. All students and their families are invited!
  • Students Against Destructive Decisions will meet Thursday after School in Room 208. Those who have expressed interest in the club should attend.

  • Come and join UNICEF afterschool in Ms. Scott's room 212, to earn service hours, eat snacks, and have fun!  The first meeting is Wed., Oct. 17.
  • Women of Color, a multicultural club that focuses on empowering and reaching issues pertaining to all women of color, will be meeting Wed., 10/10, after school in room 234.  Meetngs are held every first Wednesday to stimulate discvussion, break down stereotypes, and provide a safe space for all women of color and their allies.  Snacks will be provided.
  • THE MRHS Young Democrats, in conjunction with the Maryland High School Democrats, will be hosting a "General Election Boot Camp' in the Commons on Friday, Oct. 12 from 4-5:30 p.m.  Come meet your local Democratic candidates, learn about internship and volunteer opportunities, and register to vote.  All are welcome.  We look forward to seeing you there!
  • Attn Sophomores!  The 2021 Class Council needs your help! We need assistance for seting up for homecomin TODAY afterschool in room 242 from 2:15-3 p.m.
  • Lost & Found:  The front office has a lack, sparkly lunch bag, white ear buds, and a bag containing sweatpants and a Gettysburg t-shirt.  Please stop by the front office to claim them.
  • The Mock Trial team try-out schedule is posted outside room 309.  If you signed up last week, check the sheet; tryouts start today right after school.
  • Congratulations to our Mustang Golf Team on winning the District 5 Golf Tournament.  They will now advance to the MD State Golf Tournament.  Good luck and bring home that state trophy (again!).

  • Congratulations to the varsity field hockey team on their 2-0 victory over Atholton! Goals scored by Eloise Clevenger and Gracie Kennedy, assisted by Kayla Brusco. That's the 3rd shut out for Grace Tolle in the cage! Come catch us play at River Hill today at 4:00!
  • If you have turned in all your paperwork for a parking permit, prior to today, please come down to the front office to receive your parking permit.
  • Are you interested in applying for Tri-M music honor society? If so, use the link given to you by your director, and pick up a teacher nomination form outside the orchestra room. Applications are due Tuesday, October 16th.
  • The "Teens for Jeans" jeans drive has begun! Donate your wanted jeans in the box located outside the front office from today until wednesday, October 24th! All jeans will be donated to the youth Empowered Society in Baltim for homeless teens.
  • There will be an interest meeting for the Ping-Pong club in room 351 this Friday, October 5th after school. See you there!

  • The last day to turn -in Key Club forms are afterschool on Tuesday, 10/9, and at the general meeting on 10/23.  Look on mrkeyclub.weebly.com for more details.
  • Do you want to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)?  If so, sign up in Student Services.  We need a minimum number of interested students to schedule the test at MRHS.
  • The next and final Safe Driving Presentations are 10/3 @ 7pm at Oakland Mills HS and 10/23 @ 6:30 pm at Hammond HS.  Students must attend a presentation in order to park on school property.  If you are not a current driver, but plan to drive later in the school year, plan to attend . . . no guarantee there will be presentations later in the year.
  • There will be a BARK club meeting on Thursday, 10/4 at 2:15 in room 207.
  • Science Olympiad will meet Thursday, 10/4 afterschool in room 344.
  • Do you have old jeans that don't fit or that you just don't wear?  Donate them to Rooted in Christ's "Teens for Jeans" jean drive to support homeless teens in Baltimore.  A donation box will be located outside the front office starting Oct. 4.
  • Seniors!  Don't forget Senior Class Ticket and Crab Feast Only Tickets are now on on sale.  Pay online or during all lunch shifts Oct 4 & 5.  Senior ticket is $85 (includes all pre-graduation activities AND Crab Feast).  Crab Feast Only Ticket is $50.   Get yours TODAY!

  • This is a reminder that Key Club sign-up forms and dues can be turned in at the Media Center tomorrow after school from 2:30-3:25. 
  • Reminder that all NHS applications are due this Friday, October 5th to the bin in Student Services.
  • Congratulations to the Varsity Field Hockey team on their double overtime victory agains South Carroll last Friday.  Come watch the girls take on Severna Park today at 4:00 pm.
