2017 National Spanish Examinations
Congratulations to several Marriotts Ridge High School Spanish students who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2017 National Spanish Examinations.
In March, 107 MRHS Spanish students participated in the National Spanish Exam. The exam, which is administered by over 3,000 teachers nationwide, is designed to recognize student achievement and promote the study of Spanish as a second language, and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
Students from Marriotts Ridge earned a total of 2 Gold, 10 Silver, and 20 Bronze medals along with 25 Honorable Mentions. “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the NSE is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 157,000 students participating in 2017.”
This success is due to the students’ hard work, as well as the Spanish teachers who help to prepare them: Mrs. Gado, Mrs. McCabe, Ms. Rhodeside, Mr. Gnagey, and Mr. Ventosa.
Congratulations MRHS Spanish students! Our two Gold Medal Winners were Malavika Mahendran (Spanish 2 Honors) and Michelle Li (Spanish 2 Honors)

MRHS Oreo Booth at the Howard County Fair
Volunteers needed! The 2017 Howard County Fair is approaching fast. As is tradition, the Marriotts Ridge Boosters will be hosting the Fried Oreo booth at the fair again this year. The Oreo Booth is an important fund raiser for the Boosters, and we need your support to make it a success. The proceeds from the Oreo Booth go directly to the MRHS community in the form of funding for clubs, camps, activities and athletics for all of Marriotts Ridge.
The 2017 Howard County Fair is August 5-12. We need both adults and students to help, no experience is necessary. Students can receive community service hours for their time. Information and sign-up is located at: http://www.signupgenius.com/
