Parent/Teacher Conferences – February 4th and 5th
The year HCPSS will be using the Synergy Conference Management to schedule parent teacher conferences; this is a change from Pick A Time. Synergy Conference Management provides a simple user interface and easy navigation. Starting today, Monday, February 1st, Marriotts Ridge High School parents can log into HCPSS Connect to view and select from the time slots provided by the teachers for their conferences. Additional step-by-step information instructions are attached to this email for your convenience.

MRHS DANCE PROGRAM Auditions
Monday Feb 1 - 2:30-6 Dance Studio Workshop-Students will learn combinations in jazz and contemporary. Please wear proper dance attire and bring audition forms.
Tuesday Feb 2 - 2:30-6 Dance Studio Auditions-Students will sign up in groups of 4 in 15 minute increments to perform audition combinations.

High School Talent needed! Marriotts Ridge High School's version of America's Got Talent needs you! Class Acts will take place this year on Thursday February 18th from 7 - 9:30 pm in the auditorium. In the past this classic MRHS event has taken place in May but is being moved to February due to academic demands on students and staff during the spring. If you are interested in performing for your grade in this light-hearted competition then please see Ms. Adams in Room #353 for tryout information.
Student Member of the HC Board of Ed Applications
Howard County Public Schools is now accepting applications for the next Student Member of the Howard County Board of Education. Any current sophomore or junior in Howard County may apply for this position. The student must be regularly enrolled in an HCPSS high school, academically eligible, and a junior or senior in the 2016-2017 school year. The student elected by the students of Howard County will serve a one‑year term on the Howard County Board of Education, July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017. For more information on the application process please see MRHS Student Government Advisor Meredith Adams in room 353. Applications are due February 12, 2016.
Howard County STEM Fair & Festival
The Howard County STEM Fair & Festival is an annual exhibition of projects developed by secondary school students interested in research. This year’s event reflects the same format as last year, to include both a judged fair portion (8:30 am - 12:30 pm) as well as a community festival of STEM. The community is invited to join us for this open event from 1 pm - 3 pm. The date for the event is Saturday, April 9, 2016
The MRHS Music Department is hosting the Navy Band for a concert this Thursday, Feb 4th at 7pm. Selected MRHS Students will be performing with the Navy Band. The concert is free and open to the public and no tickets are required.

PRACTICE SAT – Rescheduled
Take a full-length Practice SAT under realistic testing conditions. Catalyst Prep is offering a Practice SAT Test at MRHS. Proceeds benefit the MRHS PTSA.
When: Saturday, February 13 – 9am – 1pm
Cost: $15 Pre-registration is required. Walk-in students will be accommodated as space allows.

The MRHS Boosters Club will host the annual Mustang Madness Event on March 12 at Players Bar and Grill. Come join other parents for a night of fun and fundraising. There will be dinner, music, raffles, prizes and a silent auction. We are offering an incredible early bird ticket price of $35 on January 25 and 26 only through the Boosters Online Store. The ticket price increases to $45 on January 27 through March 10 and then ticket prices at the door are $50. Beginning January 25, go to mrhs-boosters.com to buy your ticket. Donations for the silent auction will be accepted until March 1. LEADERSHIP U: Is your student looking for leadership opportunities? Does he or she want to make a difference? Consider joining the Leadership U Class of 2016! Leadership U is an exciting leadership, teambuilding and community service opportunity for current high school sophomores. This four-month program involves a week-long summer program of hands-on activities as well as involvement in a team community service project.
This program is for students with leadership potential, a desire to learn with others, and for those with an interest in the community. Come to learn more and speak to some of our grads at our information session on February 10 at Central library or March 3 at Miller - all from 7-8 pm. Parents and students are encouraged to attend. Applications and information are available in the Guidance Office or at www.leadershiphc.org. Applications are due March 17, 2016.

HC Drug Free
HC DrugFree Teen Advisory Council Meetings: HC DrugFree’s Teen Advisory Council (TAC) meets one Monday evening a month from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at The Barn (Oakland Mills Village Center) and is open to all Howard County high school students. The next TAC meeting will be held on February 22. Community service hours are available. Parents: Attend Free Training to Save a Life! If your child, spouse or friend is abusing opioids (prescription pain medication such as Percocet or Vicodin, and street drugs such as heroin), attend the free opioid overdose response training offered by the Howard County Health Department. Parent Volunteers – PLEASE READ
HCPSS has developed a brief training module and certificate of completion for anyone that volunteers at Marriotts Ridge or any other Howard County Public School. Both the module and certificate are located on the HCPSS website, and we’ll also create links from your schools to this page under the “Get Involved” navigation tag. Parents/volunteers please complete the training and submit your certificate of completion to the school before registering as a volunteer.
