She was nominated by one of her students under the theme Great Teachers Change the World, One Student at a Time. This year’s event was held at Reservoir HS and sponsored by the Gifted & Talented Advisory Committee.

HoCo History Day Please congratulate the following students who won at the Howard County History Day competition in their respective categories and will represent MRHS at the Maryland State History Day Competition on May 11 at UMBC.
FBLA State Leadership Conference MRHS had 67 students participate in 30 competitive events with over 50 students placing in the top 10 of their event. We had seven 1st place finishes, and 31 students who qualified to compete at the National Conference this summer in San Antonio. We congratulate the following students on their success!

Fourth Circuit Sponsors 2019 High School Essay Contest
The contest is open to all students currently in grades 9 through 12. Essays are limited to 1,000 words and must be submitted by April 15, 2019. Students have the opportunity to win one of three cash prizes: first place, $2,000; second place, $1,500; and third place, $1,000. Winners will be announced in July, and travel will be provided to the court’s Constitution Day event in September 2019.

Youth Police Academy The Howard County Police Department will be hosting a free, one week overnight Youth Police Academy July 7-12 at the Public Safety Training Center. It is for students between the ages of 15-18 who are interested in a law enforcement career. The Youth Police Academy replicates the actual Howard County Policy Academy. This experience is designed to help styudents explore career and leadership opportunitite and physical training. Dale Carnegie Young Adult Leadership Program Coming to River Hill High School in June is open to all Howard County high school students (rising 9th to 12th grades), teaches life skills in communication, interpersonal skills, public speaking, stress management, and self-confidence. Teen Advisory Council: HC DrugFree’s Teen Advisory Council (TAC) will meet Monday, April 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Barn/Teen Center in the Oakland Mills Village Center. TAC meets one Monday evening a month and is open to all Howard County high school students. Community service hours are available for all meetings and events. Drive-thru EpiPen/Sharps and Medication Collection: Howard County's next convenient drive-thru collection for over-the-counter and prescription medication and “sharps” (needles, syringes and EpiPens) will be held on Saturday, April 27 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Wilde Lake Village Center parking lot near the UPS Store. HC DrugFree and the Howard County Police urge you to clean out your medicine cabinets. Teams, clubs, students, PTAs/PTSAs, families, scouts, etc. are welcome to volunteer at the event and receive community service hours.
