2019 Graduation Ceremony Dates

HCPSS has announced the graduation ceremony schedule for the 2018–2019 school year. Commencements will take place between May 23 and May 30. Graduation-related information is available online.

Update on the 2019-2020 Calendar

Recent changes in state law allow greater flexibility to local Boards in establishing school calendars. HCPSS will maintain the previously announced student start date of September 3, 2019, a decision made in fairness to students, families and staff who have already scheduled summer plans.

Night of Honor Event to Recognize Staff and Alumni

In partnership with HCPSS, the Bright Minds Foundation will host the 2019 Night of Honor to recognize outstanding HCPSS staff and alumni on Tuesday, May 7, from 6:30-9 p.m., at Long Reach High School. Tickets are available at $15 through the Bright Minds Foundation.

At the March 28 Board of Education meeting, HCPSS recognized 35 teachers who achieved National Board Certification, the highest-level credential in the educational profession.

Outstanding Alumni Award

 

Nominations Due Friday, April 5

The Bright Minds Foundation will recognize three former HCPSS students with its first ever Work Hard Be Kind Outstanding Alumni Award, which celebrates alumni who have achieved the highest level of professional or academic accomplishment and demonstrated service to the Howard County community.

 

Youth Art Month Exhibition

The public is invited to the Howard County Center for the Arts’ Youth Art Month exhibit featuring hundreds of works by HCPSS K-12 students.

 

Get Involved in Student Leadership and Service

 

Wednesday, April 10, 7-8:30 p.m., Homewood Center Cafeteria

All middle and high school students interested in serving the community and gaining leadership skills are invited to participate in the monthly meetings of the Howard County Association of Student Councils (HCASC). At the April meeting, participants will select the mascot and school colors for High School #13, meet with the Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB), and become informed voters for the upcoming SMOB general election.

 

Community Advisory Council Meeting

 

Wednesday, April 10, 7 p.m., Department of Education

The CAC will hold its annual election of officers, followed by a presentation by curriculum office staff on the Gifted and Talented program. CAC meetingsare open to the public.

 

2019 Children’s Discovery Fair: Math All Around Me

 

Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., North Laurel Community Center

The public is invited to a free celebration for children ages 3-5 and their families. Participants can explore the wonders of math while engaging in hands-on math themed activities, interactive games, crafts, stories and free dental screenings.

 

Spring Break Meals

 

Monday, April 15-Thursday, April 18, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Multiple Locations

Free lunches will be served to children age 18 and under. There is no application, enrollment or cost for this program.
