Strutting with the Staff

Support your school’s team and see a special performance by Dr. Martirano and his Executive Leadership Team at Bright Minds’ fourth annual dance contest on March 27, 7-9 p.m. at the Jim Rouse Theater. Teams of principals and staff from all HCPSS high schools will compete. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online.

Novak Named MASSP Principal of the Year

Howard High School Principal Nick Novak has been named the 2019 Principal of the Year by the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP). Novak was surprised with the announcement on Monday at a celebration with Howard students and staff.

2019-2020 Kindergarten Registration Online Enrollment Open

Parents/guardians of children who will be five as of September 1, 2019 must enroll their children in kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year. Parents may begin the enrollment process online, followed by completion of the registration process at your child’s school, between March 11-15, 2019.

Special Education Teacher Interview Fair

 

Thursday, March 7, 3-7 p.m., River Hill High School

Applicants for special education teaching positions may register for a screening interview with representatives from the Department of Special Education.

 

The Council of Elders Academy: Dating Dangers and Human Trafficking

 

Saturday, March 9, 9–11:15 a.m., Oakland Mills Middle School

Attendees at this HCPSS/The Council of Elders Academy workshop will learn more about the warning signs of unhealthy relationships, as well as information on human trafficking.

 

Safe Driving Presentations

 

Monday, March 11, 6 p.m., Long Reach High School

Thursday, March 21, 7 p.m., Reservoir High School

All students drivers and a parent or guardian must annually attend a safe driving session in order to obtain a school parking permit. Students may attend a presentation at any location.

 

Student Member of the Board Candidate Forum

 

Wednesday, March 13, 7-8:30 p.m., Homewood Center Cafeteria

All middle and high school students are invited to participate in the Candidate Forum for the 2019-2020 Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB), with finalists Allison Alston of Reservoir High School and Hannah Whitkin of Long Reach High School, at the March meeting of the Howard County Association of Student Councils (HCASC).

Public Hearings on HCPSS Policies

 

The Board will hold public hearings on Policy 2020 Policy Development and Adoption, Policy 4000 Grants, and Policy 9270 Student Assault and/or Battery on Staff. Learn how you can provide testimony on Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m. at the Department of Education.
