Congratulations to Charlie Zou who participated in the Special Olympics where he won a Silver Medal in Skiing!

 

 

Speech and Debate Team has a very successful competition at the National Speech and Debate Association Chesapeake District Tournament.  Eligible public and private high schools throughout the Maryland region participated.  MRHS won the Student Congress Sweepstakes Trophy for having the top rated Student Congress team in the district, and Amaris Hesterwas recognized as the District Student of the Year!  Congratulations to the following students who competed and will now move on to compete at the National Tournament in Dallas this summer.

 

 

CLUB NEWS

MRHS Coffeehouse Diversity Night, Are you a performer, artist, or musician looking for a creative venue to showcase your pieces? Look no further!  MRHS Coffeehouse is looking for performers of all types to present their poems, prose, or songs to an audience of friends and family to be held March 14 from 7-9 pm.  Interested?  Emailmrhscoffeehouse@gmail.com to signup!

MULTICULTURAL NIGHT, hosted by MRHS Bollywood and MAAAC Clubs, will be held on March 15 from 5:00-7:30 p.m.  There will be food and activities, including performances and henna tattoos.  This is a FREE event!  

Best Buddies is in its 3rd year at MRHS.  We have had many success stories with building relationships.  We are now looking to make an impact on the Annual Friendship Walk at University of Maryland, College Park.  T-shirts are being sold now through March 28 to support our fundraising needs for transportation.  Help us get ready for the Friendship Walk at College Park!  Click here to support MRHS for Best Buddies Friendship Walk to be held on May 4, 2019.

SGA Executive Board applications are due on 3/15.  The application can be found at this link or you can pick up a packet from the media center or Mrs. Patterson in room 336.  Please read over the entire packet carefully and see Mrs. Patterson in room 336 or Mrs. Rashid in the media center with questions.  Good luck!

2019 AP EXAMS registration is now open!  All information is available on the MRHS AP website.

PROM 2019 will be held May 4, 2019.  Ticket information and Prom Guest Request Form are available on the MRHS website. 

Leadership U Class of 2019  Are you a student looking for leadership opportunities?   Do you want to make a difference in our Howard County community?  Consider joining the Leadership U Class of 2019!  Come to learn more and speak to some of our grads at our last information session on March 7 at Miller Library from 7-8pm.  Additional information is available athttp://www.leadershiphc.org/leadership-u-2/ or email Meg Ignacio   mignacio@leadershiphc.org.   Applications are due March 14, 2019.

Safe Driving Presentations  All student drivers and a parent or guardian must annually attend a safe driving session in order to obtain a school parking permit.  Students may attend at any location.  Upcoming presentations:

  • Monday, March 11, 6 pm at Long Reach High School
  • Thursday, March 21, 7 pm at Reservoir High School

 

Student Member of the Board Candidate Forum  All middle and high school students are invited to participate in theCandidate Forum for the 2019-2020 SMOB, with finalists Allison Alston of Reservoir HS and Hannah Whitkin of LRHS, on March 13 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the monthly meeting of the Howard County Association of Student Councils (HCASC).  Meetings are held in the Homewood Center Cafeteria.    

 

Vaccinate Before You Graduate: In-school Clinic for Students in 11th and 12th Grades. More information and online consent form (due by March 22) is available on the MRHS website.

Student Contests

Film-savvy teens are invited to create films for the 15th annual HoCo Student FilmFest.  Deadline for entries is April 5. 

Students are invited to design a poster or create a video on the contest theme, We Are All Welcome Here, for the annualChoose Civility Poster & Video Contest.  Deadline for entries extended to March 17.

The Indian Cultural Association of Howard County, a non-profit organization, is conducting a High School Essay Contest for students in Howard County.  The topic is “What can the world learn from Mahatma Gandhi?”  Entry deadline is March 29 @ 11:59 PM.

Soup’r Sundae, March 17
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wilde Lake High School
All proceeds benefit Grassroots and hosted by Wilde Lake HS.  $20 for adults, $5 children under 12   Includes: all you can eat soup, all the ice cream you can eat, silent auction, entertainment for children, and a 50/50 raffle!  Tickets available online and at the door.
 
Join Board Members for Coffee & Conversation
March 19, 7:30-9:00 p.m. – MRHS Media Center
The public is invited to meet informally with Board of Education members for coffee and conversation on a variety of topics.
 
Strutting with the Staff, March 27
7-9 p.m. at the Jim Rouse Theater
Our staff dancers will compete against other HCPSS high schools for the coveted Mirror Ball trophy in this popular dance competition. Proceeds are used by Bright Minds to further our mission of addressing equity and access in our educational setting, promote innovation, and support skill-building for our students throughout their lives.
TEAM MRHS has set a goal of $1000!  $1=1 vote.

College Admission Panel Discussion, March 26
7p.m. in the Auditorium at River Hill HS
Sponsored by RHHS PTSA.   This event will address how families can begin to understand the college search and college application process.  There is a right fit for everyone!   Parents are invited to attend this wonderful opportunity, sponsored by the River Hill High School PTSA on March 26 at 7pm in the RHHS Auditorium.  Panel participants include representatives from Dickinson College, George Washington University, James Madison University, Johns Hopkins, and UMD College Park.
