High School Final Exams begin Tuesday!

What is the procedure for make-up exams after the last day of school?  Final exams will be administered on June 18-21, 2019, per the schedule above as set forth by Central Office.  HCPSS Policy 8020 states that "no student is exempt from these examinations, and examinations may not be taken before a scheduled examination date."  All make-up exams must be completed before the start of the 2019-2020 school year.   After the exam day and prior to the last day of school, students will make arrangements with their teacher.  After June 21, students will schedule a make-up through Student Services by calling 410-313-5446.

It is the expectation that makeup of final exam(s) will be scheduled as soon after the last day of school as possible, but no later than July 15, 2019.   Z code (exam not taken) will be assigned when a student misses a final exam for a course.  Z codes will appear on the final report card mailed home on June 26, 2019.  Once the student takes the exam and after the teacher has scored the make-up exam and issued a grade change form, the Z code will be converted to the letter grade earned on the exam and an updated report card will be issued.  Please note that this process will not occur until staff returns after summer break.

As your family makes plans for next summer, as many of us do plan far in advance, it is advisable that you do not book flights, vacation rentals, or other activities until after the last POSSIBLE school day.  Next year, that date is Monday, June 22, 2020.  In point of fact, if we exceed all pre-scheduled make-up days, it is very possible the State Board of Education will require school be in session for additional dates during that week.  So, we strongly recommend you avoid making plans until the weekend of June 27, 2020.
