“Know Your Car” Clinic for Teen Drivers
Tuesday, April 16 from 12-3 p.m. in the Marriotts Ridge HS parking lot
The Howard County Department of Police, in collaboration with the Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education (AAA affiliate), will be hosting the first “Know Your Car” Clinic for new drivers between the ages of 16-18. This program was developed by MRHS SRO, PFC Mike Willingham with the MAFSE to help teen drivers become more familiar with the vehicle they drive. Drivers will pull into a lane and meet with a HoCo Police Officer to complete a checklist that will cover distracted driving, seat belts, driving positions, vehicle blind spots, simple maintenance and fluid identification. This is FREE clinic, and upon completion, student drivers have the opportunity to enter a raffle to win a $50 VISA gift card.
Youth Police Academy
The Howard County Police Department will be hosting a free, one week overnight Youth Police Academy July 7-12 at the Public Safety Training Center. It is for students between the ages of 15-18 who are interested in a law enforcement career. The Youth Police Academy replicates the actual Howard County Policy Academy. This experience is designed to help styudents explore career and leadership opportunitite and physical training.
