Important information about student drivers at MRHS for the 18-19 school year!

We are excited to share with you some changes with our parking beginning this school year. As our population of student drivers increases, along with our top priority of keeping everyone safe, we will be issuing bright colored parking permits. This will allow us to easily identify that the cars in our parking lots are, indeed, students and staff who are supposed to be there.

Staff and students will display the parking permit hang tag on their rear view mirror. Below is the crucial information that you need to know, and act upon, if your student will be driving at any point during this school year.

  • A Parent/Guardian is required to attend a Safe Driving Presentation hosted by HCPSS high schools with your student. MRHS will host presentations on 9/4/18 and 9/11/18 at 6:30 PM in the auditorium. (See below for more information.)
  • You are required to pay $15.00 for a parking permit.
  • You should register any car that your student may be driving to school since the hang tag can be switched to another car as long as it is registered with us.
  • In an emergency we will be able to identify, immediately, which cars belong in our parking lot by the bright colored permits hanging on the rear view mirrors.
  • Students who park on school property, during the school day, without a permit will face consequences. If they want to drive, they are required to attend a Safe Driving Presentation with you and pay $15.00 for a parking permit.

Thank you for helping us to keep our students safe. We are looking forward to seeing all of our students back in the building, we have missed them!

PARKING PERMIT INFORMATION

Marriotts Ridge HS will host Safe Driving Presentations on 9/4 and 9/11 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.  All Safe Driving Presentation dates have been posted to the HCPSS website.  Students can attend any class at any location.   http://www.hcpss.org/news-posts/2018/08/2018-2019-safe-driving-presentations/

Permission for students to drive and park vehicles on school system property is a privilege, not a right. In order to be granted this privilege, students must obtain a student parking permit each school year, which requires student and a parent/guardian to annually attend a driver safety session and to pay a $15 fee for the parking permit.  Students must also comply with all school rules related to driving and parking on school property in order to retain this privilege.

Parking permits will be issued to eligible Junior and Senior students. If you anticipate that you will be requesting a parking permit during the school year, you should attend a Safe Driver Presentation this Fall, as presentations in the Spring may be very limited.   Please note that a permit cannot be issued unless the student and a parent/ guardian attend one of the school-based meetings.  No exceptions will be made to this county initiative.

No one will be admitted after the program begins.  Students and parents/guardians must be present for the entire presentation.  BE PROMPT!  DOORS CLOSE AT START OF PROGRAM!!

You will be given a Safe Driving Participation Certificate at the presentation.  Please keep this certificate for verification of attendance.

In addition to attending the Safe Driving Presentation, a Parking Permit Application (available at the Presentation) must be completed in order to obtain a parking permit.  Signing the Parking Permit Application indicates your understanding of the MRHS Vehicle Registration and Parking Agreement. In order for you to receive your parking permit, please deliver the completed Parking Permit Application, a copy of your driver’s license and proof of insurance, and the $15.00 parking fee to the front office.  Accepted payment types include:  check payable to Marriotts Ridge High School, online school payment at osp.osmsinc.com/HowardMD, or exact cash (front office cannot issue change).  Once the application has been processed, the student will receive a 2018-19 parking permit hang tag to be displayed on the vehicle’s rear view mirror.
