Seniors should wear their caps straight on their heads with the deep part at the back and the tassel over the right temple. Some of the caps may not fit easily with the present hair fashions. Students should therefore try on the cap with their hairstyle and adjust the style accordingly. Females should wear a dress, skirt or dress pants and nice shoes. It is not recommended that graduates wear high heels. Males should wear white shirts or light-colored collared shirts, neckties, dark dress pants, dark shoes and dark socks. No sneakers, tennis shoes, boots, flip-flops or other such footwear will be allowed. All shirts must be buttoned and collars should be placed inside the gown. When you receive your cap and gown hang it up to release the wrinkles. Do not iron your gown.
Graduation Ceremony at Merriweather Post Pavilion - Graduates must arrive at the check-in area at 3:30 p.m. with caps and gowns and be dressed in appropriate attire (see above). Graduates must report directly to the designated area and may not walk around the pavilion in their caps and gowns prior to the ceremony. The ceremony should conclude at or slightly before 6 PM. Diplomas will be issued to students after their names are read OR backstage immediately following the ceremony for those students who need to return borrowed honor society regalia.
All Howard County School System and MRHS policies and procedures will remain in effect and will be enforced for all activities including graduation. Students should be thoughtful and conscious of their actions so as not to jeopardize the privilege of participating in graduation. Students who do not cooperate during rehearsals may not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.
