Winter Sports Season

The Winter Sports season will begin Tuesday, November 15th. The following information will be helpful for any student who plans to try out for Girls and Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Indoor Track, Cheerleading, and Allied Bowling.  Allied Bowling tryouts will begin later than November 15th; that date still has not been determined.

  1. Students must be academically eligible. They must have a 2.0 GPA for the first marking period. They are permitted to have one failing grade but still must have a 2.0 GPA.
  2. All Students must be insured.
  3. They must have the following documents on file on November 15th.
  • Current Physical dated after 4/1/2016  A physical is needed yearly.
  • Copy of Birth Certificate- if they have tried out before, this document is already on file.
  • Proof of Residency- every sports season- BGE bill is best.
  • Athletic Participation- needed each sports season
  • Concussion Testing- Once taken, this is good for 2 years.
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Document- once each year

All forms can be taken from the MRHS website. They should be turned into the coach prior to tryouts.

Concussion testing for winter sports will be given in the Media Center computer lab by our Athletic Trainer, Carly Hayes at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on the following dates:

        11/9   Cheerleading and Girls Basketball

        11/10   Wrestling

        11/11   Boys Basketball and Indoor Track Pole Vaulters*

        11/14   Make Ups

Concussion Paperwork must be brought to the testing sessions. There are 2 forms that can be found on the Marriotts Ridge Website. Students must be on time for the sessions. Testing is done as a group and starts as a group. No exceptions.

*Other Indoor Track Athletes do not need to be tested

Winter Sportsmanship Night will be held on Wednesday, November 30th at 7pm. Meetings will be held by individual coaches. One parent or guardian is expected to attend. Students do not need to attend.
