Folly Quarter Middle School Community Indoor Yard Sale. Sat. March 12, 8:00am -12:00pm, 13500 Triadelphia Rd. Ellicott City. Get your spring cleaning done early! Clean out your closets, basements, and garages! Sell your items at our yard sale. Do you have a craft or product you wish to sell? Space available/$20 per table. On Wednesday, March 2nd, the Howard County Office of Consumer Affairs and Consumer Advisory Board will host a Student Loan Forum and Resources Fair, “Know Before You Owe!”. The purpose is to help prospective students and families make informed decisions on how to: finance higher education, determine manageable debt loads, shop for student loans and avoid consumer scams surrounding higher education. Our speakers include representatives from Howard County Consumer Affairs, HCPSS, Howard Community College, US Department of Education, the MD Attorney General’s Office, and the Consumer Finance Protection Board. 

Date / Location: Wednesday, March 2, 7-9pm  - George Howard Building, Ellicott City, MD

Format: We will host a forum with multiple speakers from education and consumer protection organizations, followed by a reception with light refreshment. The fair will offer resources from a variety of exhibitors.

Safe Driving Presentation – as part of the HCPSS procedures, all students who plan to drive to school and at least one parent/guardian MUST ATTEND a mandatory safe driving presentation.   This mandatory meeting must be attended each school year. Students will receive a parking permit once both the student and parent/guardian attend a safe driving presentation and the application process is complete.  The next safe driving presentation will be held on March 3 at 6:30 pm at Howard High School.  


Spring Sports Information

The Spring Sports season will begin Tuesday, March 1st. The following information will be helpful for any student who plans to try out for Girls and Boys Lacrosse, Outdoor Track, Baseball, Softball, Tennis and Allied Softball. Allied Softball tryouts will begin later than March 1st. That date still has not been determined.

Students must be academically eligible. They must have a 2.0 GPA with no more than one failing grade for the second marking period.
All Students must be insured.
They must have the following documents on file on March 1st.

Current Physical dated after 4/1/2015   A physical is needed yearly.
Copy of Birth Certificate- if they have tried out before, this document is already on file.
Proof of Residency- every sports season. BGE bill is best.
Athletic Participation- needed each sports season
Concussion Testing- once taken, this is good for 2 years.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest- once a year

All forms can be taken from the MRHS website. They should be turned into the coach prior to tryouts.

Concussion testing for spring sports will be given in the Media Center Computer Lab by our trainers, Phyllis Sanders and Carly Hayes, at 3:30 and 4:30 on the following dates:

2/22   Boys Lacrosse

2/23   Girls Lacrosse

2/24    Softball

2/25    Baseball

2/29    Track (Pole Vaulters Only)   and any Make Ups

Track (except Pole Vaulters)  and Tennis Athletes do not need to be tested.

Session will begin on time. Lateness will exclude you from the session.

Spring Sportsmanship night will be held on Thursday, March 10th at 7pm. One parent or guardian is expected to attend. Students do not need to attend.

2016 AP Exam Registration is now open!

Information regarding the 2016 AP Exam Registration and Fee Waiver Application is located on the Naviance Home Connections page. Registration must be done through the student’s (not parent’s log-in.) Registration is not complete until a signed copy of the registration survey and payment is received in Student Services.


Deadlines:    March 15 to avoid late fees
                   March 16 - April 1 - $20 late fee per registration
(Note: no registrations will be processed during Spring Break, March 25 - April 1)                 
                   April 2 - April 15 - $55 late fee per registration

2016 AP Exam dates:  May 2 - 6 and May 9 - 13

Location:  Again this year, all exams, other than world languages, will be held at Circle D Farm in Lisbon.

Lifetouch Photography will be at Marriotts Ridge High School on March 2ndfor anyone who has not yet had their senior portrait (drape/tuxedo pose) for the yearbook.


On March 2nd, they will also be doing retakes for seniors wishing to have their picture taken in the blue cap/gown.

Every year PTA Council of Howard County offers four different scholarships to graduating seniors throughout the county.  The deadline for the Scholarship applications is coming up quickly (April 15) and we are asking that your PTA/PTSA could submit a short announcement in your upcoming school newsletter alerting senior students of this opportunity. 

PTACHC offers four scholarships that are available to all seniors in the Howard County system and can be used at any college, university, trade, technical, or community college:

Teacher Education Scholarship,
Academic Scholarship,
Dr. Charles Ecker Scholarship for Community and/School Service
M. Thomas Goedeke Scholarship for 2-year trade, technical field or associates program such as for a community college program.

Leadership U:  Is your student looking for leadership opportunities?  Does he or she want to make a difference?  Consider joining the Leadership U Class of 2016!  Leadership U is an exciting leadership, teambuilding, and community service opportunity for current high school sophomores.  This four-month program involves a week-long summer program of hands-on activities, as well as involvement in a team community service project.  This program is for students with leadership potential, a desire to learn with others, and for those with an interest in the community.  Come to learn more and speak to some of our grads at our FINAL information session:  March 3 – Miller Branch Library from 7-8pm.  Parents and students are encouraged to attend.  Applications and information are available in the Guidance Office or at

The MRHS Boosters Club will host the annual Mustang Madness Event on March 12 at Players Bar and Grill. Come join other parents for a night of fun and fundraising. There will be dinner, live music, raffles, prizes and a silent auction. The ticket price is $45 online at through March 10 and then will be $50 at the door.  Donations for the silent auction will be accepted until March 1. Scholarship Opportunity for Seniors:

Howard County STEM Fair & Festival

The Howard County STEM Fair & Festival is an annual exhibition of projects developed by secondary school students interested in research. This year’s event reflects the same format as last year, to include both a judged fair portion (8:30 am - 12:30 pm) as well as a community festival of STEM. The community is invited to join us for this open event from 1 pm - 3 pm. The date for the event is Saturday, April 9, 2016

HCPSS has developed a brief training module and certificate of completion for anyone that volunteers at Marriotts Ridge or any other Howard County Public School.   Both the module and certificate are located on the HCPSS website, and we’ll also create links from your schools to this page under the “Get Involved” navigation tag. Parents/volunteers please  complete the training and submit your certificate of completion to the school before registering as a volunteer.
