Donations needed for the Mustang Flea Market on 2/27!
Items needed: housewares, books, small cleaned appliances, clothing, shoes, purses/totes,  sporting equipment, furniture, craft items, video/audio equipment, movies/CD's, toys/games, any children's items, knick knacks, and more!  You name it, we want it!

Gently used items can be dropped off at the storage units in the MRHS parking lot next to the cafeteria at the following times:
    Saturday, February 13, 9 AM - 12 PM
    Friday, February 19, 6 PM - 8 PM
    Saturday, February 20, 9 AM - 12 PM
Please hold approved large items (e.g. furniture, large sports equipment, etc.) until Friday, February 26, 4PM - 8 PM.  Please drop them off in the Commons. (sofas not accepted)

PRACTICE SAT – Rescheduled

Take a full-length Practice SAT under realistic testing conditions.  Catalyst Prep is offering a Practice SAT Test at MRHS.  Proceeds benefit the MRHS PTSA.  

When:  Saturday, February 13 – 9am – 1pm

Cost:  $15  Pre-registration is required.  Walk-in students will be  accommodated as space allows.

Dance Auditions
If you are interested in levels Dance2-Senior Company please attend a two day workshop/audition on Tuesday January 26 and Wednesday January 27 at Marriotts Ridge.  On Tuesday you will learn 2 combinations in contemporary and jazz from starting at3 pm.  Wednesday is auditions in groups of 4 in 15 minute increments starting at 3 pm.  Tutorial videos are available on MRHS Dance Facebook and through You Tube links. Audition packets are still available from Ms. Spruill all this week.

The MRHS Boosters Club will host the annual Mustang Madness Event on March 12 at Players Bar and Grill. Come join other parents for a night of fun and fundraising. There will be dinner, music, raffles, prizes and a silent auction. We are offering an incredible early bird ticket price of $35 on January 25 and 26 only through the Boosters Online Store. The ticket price increases to $45 on January 27 through March 10 and then ticket prices at the door are $50. High School Talent needed!  Marriotts Ridge High School's version of America's Got Talent  needs you!  Class Acts will take place this year on Thursday February 18th from 7 - 9:30 pm in the auditorium.   In the past this classic MRHS event has taken place in May but is being moved to February due to academic demands on students and staff during the spring.  If you are interested in performing for your grade in this light-hearted competition then please see Ms. Adams to sign up for your audition time.  Auditions will take place February 4th after school in the choir room.


Student Member of the HC Board of Ed Applications

Howard County Public Schools is now accepting applications for the next Student Member of the Howard County Board of Education.  Any current sophomore or junior in Howard County may apply for this position. The student must be regularly enrolled in an HCPSS high school, academically eligible, and a junior or senior in the 2016-2017 school year. The student elected by the students of Howard County will serve a one‑year term on the Howard County Board of Education, July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017. For more information on the application process please see MRHS Student Government Advisor Meredith Adams in room 353.  Applications are due February 12, 2016.


Student Book Club
Our next meeting will be Thursday, 1/28 in the media center during break to discuss Red Spikes by Margo Lanagan.  It's a quick read!  Stop by the media center if you need a copy!


LEADERSHIP U:  Is your student looking for leadership opportunities? Does he or she want to make a difference?  Consider joining the Leadership U Class of 2016!  Leadership U is an exciting leadership, teambuilding and community service opportunity for current high school sophomores.  This four-month program involves a week-long summer program of hands-on activities as well as involvement in a team community service project. 

This program is for students with leadership potential, a desire to learn with others, and for those with an interest in the community.  Come to learn more and speak to some of our grads at one of our information sessions:  January 25 at Miller Branch library, February 10 at Central library or March 3 at Miller - all from 7-8 pm.  Parents and students are encouraged to attend.  Applications and information are available in the Guidance Office or at  Applications are due March 17, 2016.


After Prom Party:  It is time to start planning for the greatest party of the year, the After Prom Party.  Everyone is invited to attend our first planning meeting on Monday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the staff dining room.  Even if you are a freshman or sophomore parent, we encourage you to attend and help so that you will be "in-the-know" when your students are ready to go to the prom.  This event is sponsored by the PTSA.  Contact Jane Jones at with questions.



Street Smarts of Maryland provides their students with several course options with their goal of making each student a safer driver in all types of roadway conditions. Their curriculum is defensive driving based and many of their instructors are either retired law enforcement officers or school teachers. Because of their law enforcement background, Street Smarts has also been featured in the Baltimore Sun! The Marriotts Ridge Boosters will receive a tuition referral for each student that enrolls in the program. Classes are held at MRHS directly after school from 3:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. If your child needs drivers education, please support the Boosters and enroll your child in one of these afternoon sessions at the school.

HC Drug Free

Teens Ask and Experts Answer on January 26! HC DrugFree is proud to partner with the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to encourage Howard County teens to submit their drug or alcohol questions as part of NIDA’s 2016 Drugs and Alcohol Chat Day. NIDA’s expert scientists will be available to answer teens’ questions on Tuesday, January 26between 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM. All Howard County teens may login at and use Howard County’s access code f2f58. This access code number will be required for each student to log into the chat, create a user name, and submit questions to NIDA’s panel of experts. HC DrugFree Teen Advisory Council Meetings: HC DrugFree’s Teen Advisory Council (TAC) meets one Mondayevening a month from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at The Barn (Oakland Mills Village Center) and is open to all Howard County high school students. The next TAC meeting will be held on February 22. Community service hours are available. Parents: Attend Free Training to Save a Life! If your child, spouse or friend is abusing opioids (prescription pain medication such as Percocet or Vicodin, and street drugs such as heroin), attend the free opioid overdose response training offered by the Howard County Health Department. HCPSS has developed a brief training module and certificate of completion for anyone that volunteers at Marriotts Ridge or any other Howard County Public School.   Both the module and certificate are located on the HCPSS website, and we’ll also create links from your schools to this page under the “Get Involved” navigation tag. Parents/volunteers please  complete the training and submit your certificate of completion to the school before registering as a volunteer.
